Guanajuato, Guanajuato

Guanajuato is admired not only for its subterranean streets, mummies and a tangle of changeable streets, but also for being a beautiful colonial city with baroque temples. It’s considered the second colonial city in the country after the City of Mexico. Guanajuato has a lot of tourist attractions.

For example, two of the attractions are “La Valenciana” and “Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores”. They are beautiful churches located in Guanajuato. Tourists like to go and take pictures of the luxury structure.

La Valenciana was built in the XVIII century and belonged to the Earl of Rul, one of the proprietors of La Valenciana mine (The mine is recognized in Mexico because it has its own interesting story and legend). The building is a notable example of Mexican neoclassical architecture. The church’s frontage is covered with pink quarry stones. Also, it has religious paintings that have movement. It is located in the Peace Plaza.

Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato

The city of Dolores Hidalgo is a city located in the north of Guanajuato. This is a touristic and a famous place of Guanajuato because of it´s principal parish called “La parroquia de nuestra señora de los Dolores.” It is considered the cradle of the national independency. In this parish the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla started with the independence from Spain the morning of 16 of September.

Another attraction of this city is the Miguel Hidalgo´s house. This place obviously is where the father of the nation lived. It´s now used as a museum where you can see not only all his furniture which is from the colonial times, but also important documents from the nation which were archived there just as the priest left them before going to the battle.

After visiting these two places you can visit the National Independence Museum, where you can observe important document from the Independence Day. Many people don´t know this but this construction once was used as a prison for the Spanish who lived in Dolores when the Independence began. The priest Miguel Hidalgo put them there after the shout of Independence in the parish of the town which was as we have just said “La parroquia de Nuestra señora de los Dolores”

The last important place you must visit is the house of one of the most famous singers of México; José Alfredo Jiménez. This house is where he was born and it´s used as a museum dedicated to him nowadays.

These are the important and cultural places you can visit in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato.
